      My current hypothesis is that this John Higgins was the eldest surviving son of John Higgins and Helen Cowie. The latter John Higgins was the proprietor of Higgins Neuk and so would have passed on the property to his son. Assuming this relationship is correct, then John would have been born in 1698.
