Early Life
Samuel Parish was born in May 1677 in
Sudbury, Suffolk, the son of
John Parrish and
Sarah ___. We infer these as the correct parents because they also had children called Isaac, Thomas and William who we know to be brothers of Samuel from his will (see below).
Career
Samuel was a linen draper - his son
Edward Clarke Parish took an apprenticeship as a linen draper, and there is an apprenticeship record for a Samuel Parish of Ipswich as a master linen draper in 1710 (his apprentice was John May). Samuel was made a freeman of Ipswich in 1729.
Family Life
Samuel had the following known children with an unknown wife (possibly of surname Clarke, given the middle name of their first son) who must have pre-deceased him:
- Edward Clarke b. 1704 who married Elisabeth Paris
- Samuel,
- Robert (who married Elizabeth ___)
Death
Samuel died in 1731 and buried 15 Jul 1731 at
St Lawrence in Ipswich (which is where his son Edward Clarke Parish was also buried).
His will, dated 20 December 1730, mentions:
- His son Edward Clarke Parish (£2000)
- His son Samuel Parish (all his estates in Rattlesden)
- His younger son Robert Parish (his estates in Whatfield, East Bergholt)
- His brother Thomas Parish £20
- His brother Isaac Parish £10
- His brother-in-law James Lasel £20 and £50 to each of their children
- His brother William Parish
