  • Notes
    • Early Life
We find a baptismal record for a Christopher Darnton, born 25th Dec 1674 and baptised 10th Jan 1674/5. His father his given as George Darnton, of Lower Headrow. The baptism was performed at St Peter's, which re-occurs in baptisms down the pedigree so gives me some confidence that this is the correct person.

      Family Life
Christopher married Susannah Flather on the 19th of August 1703 at St Peter's in Leeds. At the time, he is described as 'of Briggate', a neighbourhood in Leeds. Christopher and Susannah had:
      1. Elizabeth, b. 1704
      2. Sarah, b. 1705
      3. Joseph, b. 1706
      4. An un-named daughter, b. 1709
      5. John, b. c. 1710 and who married Anne Scurr in 1737

There was probably at least one other child between Joseph and John but I have not found the baptismal records.

      Death
Christopher died on the 2nd of February 1739 in Leeds.

A memorial at St John the Evangelist's churchyard in Leeds reads:
      Sacred to Memory
      Christopher DARNTONnd February 1738,
SUSANNAH, his wife died in March 1742.
John DARNTON, their son died 1st May 1759, aged 49 years.
ANN his wife died 30th Decr 1752, aged 38 years.
CHRISTOPHER son of John and Ann DARNTON died 19th April 1751, aged 15 days.
SARAH, a daughter, died 8th Decr 1763, aged 19 years.
HEPHZIBAH, another daughter, died 28th October 1766, aged 20 years, and was interred at Northorp Church, Lincolnshire.
ANN, another daughter, died 5th March 1788, aged 46 years
