Early Life
Christopher Beckwith was born in 1612 and baptised on the 25
th of October that year at
St Mary's, Masham in Yorkshire North Riding. His parents were
Anthony Beckwith of
Roomer, just outside Masham, and
Margaret Loftis.
Family Life
Fisher1 on page 553, in a description of court proceedings held 24
th May 1631 before Gilbert Horsman, mentions:
Christopher Beckwith of Rawmore, for committing adultery with Elizabeth Horsman.
Further, on page 551, it is noted that a court held at
Kirkby Malzeard church on the 6th of November 1626 found that
Christopher Beckwith, Junr., of Massam, and Maria Beckwith of Massam [were married together as is thought by an unlawful minister, and yet living together as man and wife]"
In 1626, Christopher would have been around 14 years old, so a bit young for this to be the same person, but it looks like Masham was a hotbed of incestuousness and illegitimate births so not entirely impossible.
Note, also, that "Mary, the wife of Christopher Beckwith [of Rowmer] was buried on the 29th of August 1670", which if this is indeed Christopher's wife, meant she died just a few days after her husband.
Death
Whilst it's hard to be definitive, given the number of Beckwiths around Masham, there is a record for a Christopher Beckwith of Rowmer who died in 1670 and was buried on the 21 August 1670, which I think is probably the correct one. As noted above, a Mary, wife of Christopher Beckwith of Rowmer, died just a few days later.
