Notes

Early Life
John Darnton was the son of Christopher Darnton and Susannah Flather. He was born c. 1710 in Leeds.

The basis for these parents is the memorial stone for Christopher (see Death below) which lists John of this page and some of his children, confirming the correct relationship.

Career & Family Life
In a W. Yorkshire rate book from 1743, John Darnton is showing as a tenant of Hen Ibbetson Esq, along with a John Scurr (maybe his father-in-lawor brother-in law?).

John married Anne Scurr on the 30^th of June 1737 at St Peter's in Leeds. They had eight children:
1. Mary, b. 1738
2. Elizabeth, b. 1740
3. Anne, b. 1742 and who died in 1788
4. Susannah, b. 1743
5. Sarah. b. 1745 and who died in 1763
6. The spectacularly named Hephzibath, b. 1748 and who died in 1766
7. Christopher, b. 1751 and died aged just 19 days
8. John, b. 1752 and who married Ann Healey
Death
As per a memorial at St John the Evangelist's Churchyard in Leeds, John Darnton died on the 1^st of May 1759, aged just 49. The full memorial reads:

SUSANNAH, his wife died in March 1742.
John DARNTON, their son died 1^st May 1759, aged 49 years.
ANN his wife died 30^th Dec^r 1752, aged 38 years.
CHRISTOPHER son of John and Ann DARNTON died 19^th April 1751, aged 15 days.
SARAH, a daughter, died 8^th Dec^r 1763, aged 19 years.
HEPHZIBAH, another daughter, died 28^th October 1766, aged 20 years, and was interred at Northorp Church, Lincolnshire.
ANN, another daughter, died 5^th March 1788, aged 46 years
There's a probate record for Feb 1760 in Leeds for a John Darnton - which is a feasible date of death (aged c. 55).
