  • Notes
    • Early Life
By extrapolation from younger generations, John Whichcote was probably born in the 1430s or 1440s. We do not know who his parents were. He was the first1 of the family to move to Lincolnshire (probably to Harpswell, which his descendents held for several centuries), from Whichcote in Shropshire.

      Career
John was High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1466. See his son for a note about why I think some sources have misattributed this to the son John, rather than the father John.

      Family Life
John married Elizabeth Tyrwhit, daughter and co-heir of John Tyrwhit of Harpswell and who in turn descended from the Tyrwhitts of Kettleby.

      Death
John must have died after 1466, when he was High Sheriff.
