TCP1ISABEL DE WARENNE, da. and sole heir of the abovenamed EARL WILLIAM and Ela, hia wife, m. before 6 Nov. 1153, WILLIAM DE BLOIS (b. about 1134), 3d and youngest but only surv. s. and h. of King Stephen, by Matilda, da. and h. of Eustace, COUNT OF BOULOGNE. He appeara consequently to have been recognised as EARL WARENNE. By the death of hia elder br., Eustace, 10 Aug. 1162, he became COUNT OF BOULOGNE aud by that of his father, 25 Oct. 1154, COUNT OF MORTAIN. From hia said father (when King) he had received the honour of Pevensey, co. Sussex, and that of Norwich, with huge possessions in Norfolk, all of which he surrendered to the new King, Henry II, by whom be was Knighted at Carlisle, 24 June 1158. and confirmed in all possesions held by the King, his father, previous to his accession to the throne. He accompanied Henry II. to the siege of Toulouse, but d.s.p. soon after his return therefrom in Oct. 1159, aged about 25. His widow m. as below.
THE COUNTESS ISABEL, the childless widow of Earl William (DE BLOIS), da. aud h. of Earl William (DE WARENNE), both abovenamed, m. in 1164, HAMELIN PLANTAGENET, afterwards DE WARENNE (b. before 1151), illegit. br. to Henry I, both being sons of Geoffrey, COUNT OF ANJOU. He appears consequently to have been recognised as EARL WARENNE [EARL OF SURREY], and to have adopted the family name of his said wife. He was Capt. of the Forces 1173—1174; his aignature as Comes de Warren appears 18 Sep. 1189; in 1193 be was a Commissioner for the release of Ric. I, at whose 2d coronation, 17 April 1194, he bore the second sword. His wife (the heiress of the Earls Warenne) d. 13 July 1199, and was bur. in Lewes Priory. He d. April 1202.
