  • Notes
    • Early Life
Thomas Clarell was the son of William Clarell of Aldwark and Elizabeth de Reygate.

Yorkshire Pedigrees1 has Thomas seised heir in 1355, which would suggest he was born before 1334. However, if that's true then he would have been 60 when his son Thomas was born, and over a hundred when he died in 1442. On the same page, it says his father died before 1383, which is clearly in contradiction with the date of 1355, but also removes the problem of a very early birth date for Thomas.

My conclusion is that Thomas would have been born around 1360, making him 34 when his son Thomas was born and 82 when he died in 1442.

      Family Life
Thomas married Matilda (or Maud) Montgomery and they had six children:
      1. Thomas, born c. 1394 and who married Elizabeth Scrope
      2. John, who married Elizabeth ___
      3. Robert
      4. Elizabeth
      5. Matilda
      6. Margaret, who married first John Fitzwilliam of Sprotborough and second Sir Robert Waterton

      Death
Thomas Clarell died (he drowned in the River Don) on the 1st of May 1442.
