"of Aldwark, Yorkshire, hereditary patron of
Austin Friars, Tickhill, Yorkshire, and, in right of his wife, of
Birkby, Haldenby, and
Sedbury (in Gilling), Yorkshire"
1.
Early Life
Magna Carta Ancestry1 has
Thomas Clarell born c. 1402, though
County Families of Yorkshire2 has him born c. 1394.
Family Life
Magna Carta Ancestry notes a Marriage Bond between Thomas and
Elizabeth Scrope dated 8
th May 1408, when he would have been only six years old. Per the same source, they had three children:
- Elizabeth, who married Richard FitzWilliam of Wadworth
- ___, who married ____ Ughtred
- Alice, who became the Prioress of Hampole
This description conflicts with
County Families where
Elizabeth is noted as the "only daughter and heiress". Also, if
Elizabeth was really born in 1416, then her father
Thomas would have been barely 14 at the time.
Death
In the
Illuminated Manuscripts3 Thomas Clarell's death is given as 7 February 1442, but
Magna Carta Ancestry (whilst mentioning the year 1442 in relation to something else) clearly states that he died shortly before 15 July 1450, when administration of his estate was granted to his mother. The same source states that
Thomas was buried at Austin Friars in Tickhill.
