  • Notes
    • Inherited the Kinhilt estate and the castles of St John and Dunskey from his father in 1608, but got heavily in debt and exchanged part of the property, including Dunskey, with Hugh, 1st Viscount Montgomery, one of the leaders of the Plantation of Ulster, for lands at Ballymena in 16201.

      Family Life
Beware that Burke's Peerage has William marrying Elizabeth Gordon, when that was in fact his mother. In fact, William married three times; firstly, to Rosena McLelland,by whom he had Sir Robert Adair; secondly, to ___ Houston, by whom he had John Adair of Genoch and lastly to Helen Cathcart, by whom he had William Adair of Ayr. Both Sir Robert and John of Genoch are direct ancestors through different lines.

      Death
William Adair died on the 4th of November 1626, aged 62.
