    • Early Life
      Marie Lee was born about December 1600, the eldest daughter of Sir Henry Lee and Mary Gourney. Marie was baptised1 on the 16th of December that year at St Andrew Undershaft in London.

      Family Life
      Marie married2 Sir William Martin and had at least two children:
      1. Cuthbert, who married Anne Cross but died sin prole
      2. Elizabeth, born c. 1635, who married Matthew Bluck


      Death
      Marie died in April 1651 and was buried at St Andrews Undershaft on the 24th. Her burial record reads:
      Mary Martin, Lady to Sir William Martin, was buried ye 24th day of April 1651.


      Footnotes
      [1] There are baptismal records for Marie Lee, 16 Dec 1600, at St Andrews Undershaft, daughter of Henry. Confoundingly, there is another record for 30 Dec 1617, also at St Andrews Undershaft, daughter of Henrie Lee. It may be that both these are correctly associated with Sir Henry Lee, and one of the daughters died as a child. Given that Marie went on to marry Sir William Martin, who was born in 1594, it seems slightly more likely that this Marie was born in 1600, rather than 1617. Given that Marie's mother Mary Gourney is noted as having died in childbirth in Dec 1617, it's probable that the second Mary died in childbirth, along with her mother. The best evidence that she was born in 1600 comes from her father's will, where he refers to her as his eldest daughter.
      [2] I have been unable to find a marriage record between Marie and William Martin, beyond the note in the Boyd's Inhabitants of London record for William's father Cuthbert.
