• Notes

  Early Life Elizabeth Martin was likely born in the 1630s, probably around 1635, the daughter of Sir William Martin of Woodsford and Nettleswell, and Marie Lee/Leigh, the daughter of Sir Henry Lee. Her name (Elizabeth) is confirmed on her son Matthew's baptismal record. There is a baptismal record for Elizabetha Martyn at St Martin-in-the-Fields on 10 Dec 1631, which is about the right time and place. Unfortunately no parents are given. If this is the right record, then she would have been a year older than her husband, which isn't impossible. More unlikely is that she would have been 27 when her first child was born. For this reason, I discount this as being the right record.
