Early Life
Robert Banks was born on the 22
nd of June 1650, to
Robert Banks of
Beck Hall in Giggleswick, Yorkshire, and
Margaret Frankland.
He attended Christ's College Cambridge from 1667 and graduated with his MA in 1675.
Career
Robert became the Rector of
Thrybergh in Yorkshire from 1671 until 1678, when he moved to
Hooton Roberts. He was the Vicar of
Conisbrough during 1680 and 1681 before becoming the Vicar of
Holy Trinity in Hull from 1689 to 1715. He was also a Prebendary of York from 1695-1715.

Cambridge Alumni Database has the following entry:

Family Life
Robert married
Margaret Thornton, daughter of the
Rev. Robert Thornton (rector of
Birkin in Yorkshire) on the 10
th of June 1678 at
Darrington in Wakefield. They had:
- Robert, of Bawtrey, who married Elizabeth Ward
- Joseph, later rector of Hooton Roberts, who married Mary Alderman Sykes
- Hamon, who died sp
- Anne, born c. 1684 and who married Rev. William Steer
- Elizabeth, who married Rev. Wilkinson
Death
It appears that Robert died c. November 1714 - there is a burial record at
Holy Trinity in Hull for a "Mr Robert Banks, Viccar [sic]" for the 6
th of November 1714. Note that this conflicts slightly with the date of 1715 given by the
Cambridge Alumni Database above.
