Early Life
Elizabeth Fretwell was born in 1729 and baptised
1 on the 3
rd of July that year at
Bawtry. She was the daughter of
Robert Fretwell and
Bridget Gylby.
Death
It looks like Elizabeth must have died from complications of childbirth. The Hooper website linked above has a memorial dedication, without source, but apparently from a church in
Wakefield:
Here lieth the body of Mrs ELIZABETH STEER, wife of Mr CHARLES STEER, mercht in this town who departed this life 4 November 1749 in the 21st year of her age. Also interred here: HENRY STEER obt 21 Sept 1721 ae 4 years; ROB. STEER obt 2d March 1772 ae 10 days, son of the above CHARLES STEER by his second wife.
Footnotes
[1] The only baptismal record I've found is 3 July 1729 at Bawtry, which is the same place that Elizabeth married Charles Steer. However, some other
pedigrees have her baptism as 30 July 1729 at Grimley on the Hill, about 6 miles away. Grimley is where her father lived. So it's not clear which of the two is right.
