The following is a memorial inscription
1 from the
Bolland vault in
Masham churchyard:
Sacred to the memory of Joseph BOLLAND, of Masham, Esqr., son of John BOLLAND, gent, and Margaret his wife. After having been actively engaged in the City of London for more than forty years in the anxious occupation of commerce, he retired to his native town to pass the remainder of his life, and died sincerely lamented on the 6th day of July, 1827, aged sixty eight. The widow of Joseph Bolland caused this tomb to be erected as a tribute of affection to a kind husband, of the most benevolent disposition and endearing manners.
A further footnote reads:
Joseph Bolland, here mentioned, was the son of John Bolland, mentioned in the previous note. After having retired from business, he took up his residence at Masham. On the 17th April, 1823, he was married at Masham church to Miss Dyne. He died without issue, and his widow subsequently married James Taylor Wray, Esq., late of Cliff-lodge near Leyburn, whom she also survived many years.
