  Early Life Walter Nisbet was born in Scotland and baptised at Dalziel in Lanarkshire on the 19th of July 1707, the son of Archibald Nisbet of Carphin and Emilia Stewart. Career How he came to Nevis is not clear, but ultimately Walter apparently bought the estate of Mount Pleasant and later became involved in plantation management, specifically of the Stapleton estate between 1736 to 1765 when he died1. Family Life Walter married Mary Webbe, daughter of Josiah Webbe of New River on Nevis and ___, in 1743. They had at least five children: Walter, born 1745, who married twice, first to Anne Maynard and secondly to Anne Parry and who died in 1797 Anne, born 1746 Josiah, born 1747, who married Frances Woolward; Josiah died in 1781 and his widow remarried to Horatio Nelson James Webbe, born 1749 Mary Emelia, born 1752; she died in 1830 Death Walter's wife Mary died in 1753, aged just 29.
