  • Notes
    • Early Life
Patrick was born in 1670, the son of the Rev. Patrick Adair of Belfast, and Jean Adair (daughter of Sir Robert Adair of Kinhilt and Ballymena and Jean Edmonstone). Some records (e.g. HA12/AZ2/1/69 at East Suffolk Record Office) show Patrick as son of William Adair and Ann McDowall, but I don't follow this line.

      Career
Patrick, like his father, became a Presbyterian minister; he preached at Carrickfergus from 1702. He didn't quite achieve the level of fame that his father did, so there's not a lot of biographical information available on him. A few relevant links here:

In 1711, there was a trial in Carrickfergus of women on charge for witchcraft; Patrick was a witness and the women were convicted and jailed for a year.

      Family Life
Patrick married Isabella Adair, daughter of Robert Adair and Rachel Forbes; Isabella was his first cousin; they both shared grandparents in the form of Sir Robert Adair of Kinhilt and Ballymena, and Jean Edmonstone, of the Edmonstones of Duntreath.

      Death
Patrick died on the 12th June 1717 and was buried the next day.
