  • Notes
    • Early Life
William Hayward was born in 1743 and baptised on the 13th of June at Quedgeley in Gloucestershire. He was the son of the barrister Thomas Hayward of Quedgeley, and Mercy Parson.

      Career & Family Life
William assumed the additional surname of Winstone on inheriting a property from his uncle, who married his paternal aunt Albinia Hayward (b. 1703).

William married Elizabeth Wayne, the daughter of Gabriel Wayne (a merchant based near Bristol) and Katherine Fleming, on the 29th of October 1770 at Holy Trinity in Stapleton, Bristol. They had at least four children:
      1. Thomas, b. 1771; died in 1793 aged 22
      2. Albinia Frances, b. 1773, who married the Rev. John Adey Curtis in Bath on the 23rd May 1799. From Albinia descend the modern-day Curtis-Haywards.
      3. Louisa, b. 1775 and her twin sister Elizabeth; the latter may have died in 1780
      4. Lucy, b. 1776 and who married William Forster in 1796
      5. Possibly also of this family, Henriettab. 1770s and who died in 1789

      Death
William Hayward Winstone (as he was by then known) died, aged 75, in October 1818 and was buried on the 27th at St James in Quedgeley. His first wife Elizabeth Wayne had died very early, in 1780.
