• Notes

  Captain of an Indiaman in the merchant service. I can't find any record of his marriage that fits a wife called Jane Oakley; the only record I have is Robert Kelso marrying Mary McCruscan in Kilbride in 1728 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTLD-2J5) Oakley doesn't sound like a Scottish surname, so it's probable that they married in England rather than in Scotland (there's nothing relevant on Scotland's People).
