Early Life
William Mowat was born in around 1712, baptised at St Nicholas Aberdeen on the 10 th of April that year, son of William Mowat and Christian Mowat (probably cousins).
Career
Wikipedia lists William as provost of Aberdeen from 1754 to 1756.
Family Life
William married Jean Osborn and they had a phenomenal number of children (13 at least, many dying young):
- Margaret, born 1739 and who married Captain John Kelso of Dankeith in 1758
- William, born 1740 but who died in 1743
- John, born 1740 (William's twin) and who presumably also died (before 1742)
- William, born 1741 and who presumably died before 1751
- John, born 1742
- Christian, born 1744 but who died in 1749
- Alexander, born 1745
- Jean, born 1747
- James, born 1748 and who presumably died before 1752
- William, born 1751
- James, born 1752
- Christian, born 1753
- Andrew, born 1755
- Jean, born 1765
Death
William died in April 1786 and was buried at St Nicholas, Aberdeen on the 3 rd.
